Hello Dear Community,
Thank you thank you thank you. We did it! We are all here reading this Substack and I think you’ll be here for a little longer than an Instagram post.
The past several weeks, I’ve been swept into a moment of self-induced change. I’ve been taking catalytic 🌊, low stakes 🍃 risks. I got my hair cut short for the first time ✂️, I decided that my Instagram feed has become an archive 🗃️ and said goodbye to sharing on that platform.
And these changes lead to more changes. ➡️ I tried playing a dulcimer for the first time after a few months of shying away from playing instruments 🎻. I’ve started dancing with large swaths of colored fabric in windy places and taking photos 📷 Photos lead to photo collages.
Suddenly I’m making art again. I hear myself saying: “let’s play” “let’s just try it” “let’s see what happens” “I don’t know what I’m doing this for… but I’m doing it!” The beloved phrase Fuck around and find out has been giving me cozy feelings as of late.
And there’s the thread! 🧵 I found it! I’m not sure where I lost it, but as though conjured, I’m back in my art practice, right where I left off and somewhere completely different all the same.
So anyway - that’s why I’m here today. To encourage you to make joyful, weird-o, self-induced change happen for yourself. It doesn’t need to be big, it doesn’t need to be risky. It doesn’t even need to be creativity related (!!) What if some things in your life changed for the hell of it. For the fun of it, for the magic!
This is one of many tales to come about creativity, how it becomes unblocked, and where we all go from there. Welcome to my SUBSTACK BABY!
Check out my brand new online class, it’s a guide on How to Unblock Creativity and Pursue a Lifelong Creative Practice.. It’s totally gold. Whether you’re a casual learner, or looking to dive deep - sign up for the class and take it when you’re ready. Go get it guys, 7 years in the making! 😭
Yours,
